Divided Mullions vs. Normal Windows: Why Window Cleaning Prices Can Vary
Not all windows take the same amount of time or detail to clean. One of the biggest factors that affects window cleaning pricing is whether the glass is a standard open pane or divided into smaller sections by protruding mullions.
A normal window usually has one large, flat piece of glass. This allows our technicians to clean the surface efficiently using a squeegee or our purified water system.
Divided windows have raised mullions, grids, or decorative pieces that separate the glass into multiple smaller panes. Each individual section must be cleaned separately. The edges and corners also require extra detailing to prevent water, dirt, or streaks from collecting around the dividers.
For example, a single window opening may appear to be one window, but if it contains 12 individually divided panes, it can take several times longer to clean than one standard pane of the same overall size.
This is why our initial pricing is generally based on standard, non-divided windows unless detailed photos or an in-person estimate show otherwise. Homes with French panes, historic windows, custom architectural glass, leaded glass, or complicated window designs may require adjusted pricing based on the amount of time and detail involved.
At A&D Window Washing, we regularly clean high end homes with large, custom, and difficult-to-access windows. Our goal is always to provide clear pricing and take the time needed to clean every section properly, rather than rushing through detailed glasswork.
If your home has divided mullions or a unique window design, sending us a few photos during the estimate process helps us provide the most accurate price possible.
